I thought this looked like a really cool method to use on my long coated German Shepherd photo images, so I gave it a try! Look below.
This is Bam Bam a Czech Import Black Long Coat (Long Haired) German Shepherd Jumping with a Frisbee.
Okay…this picture I used of Bam Bam was actually a little difficult due to him being photographed with a blue sky and grass behind him. Long coat German Shepherds have LOTS of long hair that goes flying in the breeze every direction while jumping!
The hair also picks up the colors around it and reflects those colors. So the top of him had blue hair, and the bottom had green tinted hair.
It took me awhile to figure it out, but after I separated him from the background using Photoshop’s magic wand, I copied that layer to a new layer. Then I made a second copy and turned it into a black and white. I used the black and white with a mask, and eventually worked out the color. Kind of a lengthy time consuming process.
Therefore I’d suggest that if you are going to do this method with a long coated German Shepherd (or another long haired breed) that you photograph them with a solid white or black background. It will make your life so much easier…LOL.
If you would like to use this method with your own images, I highly recommend getting the Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan (Photoshop CC + Lightroom)
subscription from Amazon. It’s only $$9.99 per month, and you get all the updates free of charge.
I paid close to $800 for my copy of Adobe Photoshop, and almost another $200 for Lightroom. But sadly my Photoshop version is already outdated even though it is only a few years old. Therefore I’m considering obtaining the subscription plan myself!
Lightroom is fantastic for fast sorting, quick edits, building a web page, creating a contact sheet, creating a photo book etc. I use the Photoshop/Lightroom combination all the time and I couldn’t live without them. So this photo combination offered by Adobe on Amazon is fantastic.
This software is especially fantastic if you are a long coat German Shepherd breeder offering puppies for sale, because you need to make those puppies look as cute as possible don’t you? LOL.
